Suzuki leads Hungarian passenger car market once again
Suzuki has once again secured the leading position in the Hungarian new passenger car market, achieving a market share of 12.94 % with 15,732 registered vehicles in 2024. The brand ranked first on the Hungarian sales list thanks primarily to its two models manufactured in Esztergom, the Vitara and the S-CROSS. Last year, in terms of total passenger car sales in Hungary, the Vitara was the best-selling model, and the S-CROSS was the second most popular among Hungarian buyers. The new Swift, on the other hand, finished first in the B-segment small car category.
Compared to previous years, 2024 was an eventful yet predictable year for the automotive sector. Magyar Suzuki flexibly managed the unexpected situations that impacted on stable operations. The greatest challenge was posed by the vulnerability of supply chains (Red Sea crisis). Magyar Suzuki, together with its suppliers, worked to ensure continuous production. Market players anticipated single-digit growth in total new passenger car sales in Hungary compared to the previous year, which ultimately totalled 12.9 %, strengthened by data from the fourth quarter of the year.
Ranked first for the 21st time
In Hungary, according to Datahouse’s new-car sales statistics for 2024, 15,732 Suzuki passenger cars were registered. Out of all registered passenger cars (121,607 units), 12.94 % were Suzukis in the past year. Although the Esztergom-based manufacturer didn’t top the list in some months of the year, the year-end summary confirmed that the brand once again secured the leading position in the Hungarian market. This also means that Suzuki ranked first in the Hungarian passenger car market for the 21st time since the start of production in Esztergom.
Vitara and S-CROSS competed closely
The two Esztergom-manufactured models competed closely in 2024, but the Vitara emerged as the top seller in the Hungarian market with a minor advantage. Both models were also the two most popular models among buyers in Hungary: 6,883 units for the Vitara, and 6,607 units for the S-CROSS, based on registrations between 1 January and 31 December 2024.
In February last year, the four millionth Suzuki model manufactured in Esztergom was a Vitara: a GLX trim hybrid model that was shipped to France. The popularity of one of the world’s most sought-after car models is significantly enhanced by the fact that since April, it has been available with numerous updates, new safety features, equipment, and renewed with the Suzuki Connect service that had already gained popularity in the S-CROSS models.
Other models remain popular too
Looking at the other hybrid Suzuki models, which are not manufactured in Esztergom but are sold in Hungary, the Swift – available in an updated version since May for car buyers – achieved 1,867 registrations in 2024, securing its position as the top model in the B-segment for small cars. Additionally, 302 units of the Ignis, 71 units of the Swace, and 2 units of the plug-in hybrid SUV Across were registered in 2024.
