Masato Atsumi, outgoing Managing Director of Magyar Suzuki Zrt., receives “PRO URBE ESZTERGOM” award

In recognition of his work for Esztergom, his role in developing manufacturing in Hungary, and his efforts to strengthen innovation processes and international cooperation, Masato Atsumi, who is stepping down as Managing Director of Magyar Suzuki Zrt. at the end of February, has received this year’s “Pro Urbe Esztergom” award.

Each year, the Council of the Municipality of Esztergom presents the “Pro Urbe Esztergom” award to individuals and communities who contribute to the city’s development. Atsumi Masato is the third representative of Magyar Suzuki to receive this honour, following the entire workforce of Magyar Suzuki Zrt. in 1996, and Abe Yoshinobu, the then outgoing Managing Director, in 2021.
According to the official reasoning, the outgoing Managing Director demonstrated outstanding leadership during one of the most complex periods in the company’s history. Even during the global pandemic, Magyar Suzuki maintained its stability, and even emerged stronger from the crisis. During his tenure, the Suzuki Health Centre opened its doors, providing employees with free medical examinations and treatments. He also supported Magyar Suzuki becoming the naming sponsor of the renewed Suzuki Arena, which hosts sports, cultural and community events. His leadership initiatives included the launch of a dual education programme in cooperation with the Bottyán János Technikum school in Esztergom and the establishment of the Suzuki Education Centre. In addition to this, thanks in part to Masato Atsumi’s work, the Esztergom-based company has further strengthened its position in Europe as a stable, modern and future-oriented player. The award was presented in the ceremonial hall of the Municipality of Esztergom by Mayor Ádám Hernádi and Member of Parliament Gábor Erős, along with Balázs Steindl Deputy Mayor.
“It is a great honour for me to receive this recognition, which also symbolises the development of Esztergom and the strength of its community. When I arrived in Hungary five years ago, I thought I knew what a special city I was coming to, but reality exceeded all my expectations. The openness, solidarity and commitment of the people living here have been a daily source of inspiration for me. I am proud that Magyar Suzuki has been able to contribute actively to community life in Esztergom, whether through sporting events, charitable initiatives or supporting local institutions. Even amidst the challenges of the global pandemic, we managed to maintain our stable operations and establish a long-term competitive model on which we can build the future. These achievements reflect the expertise of our colleagues and the support of the people of Esztergom. I am grateful for the past five years and for this distinguished award. For me, this recognition proves that together we can not only achieve success but also create lasting value for the future of Esztergom and the Hungarian automotive industry,” said Masato Atsumi upon receiving the award.
